Thank You Speech

First I would to thank each and every person who voted for me! Thank you for the vote of confidence.

I’m very happy with the results considering I went up against two seasoned political vets who worked hand in hand promoting each other using typical political campaign tactics.
I plan on keeping my website up to for anyone in Ward 1who would like to stay in touch. I plan on sitting in the public gallery to watch and listen when our new council sits in council chambers just to see how functional our new council will be! I will continue to ask our councilor to work for new bylaws that will stop unsubscribed newspapers that are loaded with flyers from coming to our doors. I will continue to ask the county provide a special tax assessment for seniors. The next three years will be very interesting! The other day someone asked me a great question “What made you run?” Well..I had to think about it. I always been political, if it's federal, provincial, or municipal politics I’m there. I’ve always talked the talk. My wife Linda has listened to my political rants for several decades now. She recently told to me to start walking the walk or to Shut-Up! So thanks, Linda it’s because of you that I made that first step. It’s because of Linda that I have started walking the walk. Linda’s encouragement is what made me run. Thanks Hon!!

I’m very fortunate for people like Tanya Sloan (Office Genie) And Jonas Eriksson (Eriksson Design Ltd.) I have no idea where they find their ideas for artwork and graphic design, thanks to both of you creating the flyers, lawn sign, and my website.

I strongly suggest to anyone who wants to learn how to talk in front of a crowd to join a local chapter of toastmasters. I’m looking forward to my next Bowmen meeting. I would like to thank everyone for all the kind words of encouragement and advice on how to run my campaign. I would like thank Vern Hartwell for his advice on being myself!

Since the Sherwood News changed my answers I would like to share the real answers to the seven questions that the candidates were asked

1) What is your age? - My age is 55?
2) What past experiences make you the ideal candidate?
- Ideal implies perfection. I know I will never be perfect.
My life experiences have condition me to be able to engage in debate on subjects that most politicians fear.
I’m not afraid of making decisions that are not popular, or politically correct if it means that it’s the right thing to do for our community.
3) What are your goals during the term?
- My first goal is to develop a dialogue with the residents and small business in Ward 1. I think an interactive website would enhance interaction. I would also like to learn as much as I can about every day operations on how the County of Strathcona operates.
4) What are the most important issues in your ward and how would you resolve them?
- The most important issue in my ward is providing Tax Cuts.
I want to help our aging seniors that are struggling on fixed incomes. The ones who want to stay independent in their homes for as long as possible. Tax cuts now that would free up a few hundred dollars a month would help them keep their independence. The alternative is for taxpayers to pay several thousands dollars a month to move them into homes.
5) What is your philosophy on the role of municipal government?
- Municipal politicians should be a mix of local residents with different backgrounds. This group can work together without a political party controlling policy. It’s about every day people in our neighborhoods.
6) What is your philosophy on growth?
- We can be greener!
I would like to see council challenge developers and builders to a pilot project to build desirable, affordable homes that are 100% off the grid.
And a fun one.
7) If you were a vehicle, what vehicle would you be?
- One definition of a vehicle is a medium through or by means of which something is conveyed or expressed so I would have to say that Murray Hutchinson is my vehicle...especially if I could transform into a Land Rover LR4!

So who is Murray Hutchinson

- I’m Husband to Linda for 36 years..
- I’m Father to three adult daughters..
- I’m Grandfather to 4 grandchildren..
- I’m an Independent Business Owner for over 20 years.
- An International Importer and National distributor.
- I’m also a Published Author.

So what’s my history in Sherwood Park?

My family moved to Broadmoor in 1967.
My wife’s family moved to Sherwood Heights in 1958.
Our family’s Roots go four generations deep in Sherwood Park
My Mother was a school teacher who started teaching in those one room schools in rural Saskatchewan and Alberta before choosing Sherwood Park to retire in.
When my family moved here I was 12 years old. I was in grade 7. This year my 12 year old Grandson is going to grade 7.
He’s the same age, in the same grade and is going to the same school that I did 43 years ago.

So what are the odds of this happening by chance? - Very Little!

Sherwood Park has by design, built a community where families can raise and educate their children, we have neighbourhoods that can grow and prosper, generation after generation. This is a Tribute to our founders and this is Tribute to you. I’m very proud of my family and my community.

So, I asked my grandson - What do you think of the school?

He said it looks BIG & OLD on the outside, but it’s really nice inside.
So just like the school I may look big and old on the outside but if you take time to know me and I hope you do, you will see
A Man who is loyal to wife and family….Someone who is a good neighbor…..A man you can call a friend…Someone you can TRUST!!
